What’s a grammarian to do? Yet another example of department store sign apostrophailure–that is, a baffling disregard for apostrophe usage!
I must say…there must be 1 lucky boy to be have his own department across from lingerie. Of course, ‘Boys’ Department’ should have an apostrophe after the ‘s’–as the department surely houses clothing for more than 1 boy. And, in the same manner, ‘Ladies’ Restroom’ should also have an apostrophe after the ‘s’–as the restroom is surely meant for more than 1 lady. Conversely, if the sign just say ‘Boys’ or ‘Ladies,’ then no apostrophe necessary.
